Sowden to seek Democratic nod for Greene County commissioner
A part-time police officer in Waynesburg has announced her intention to seek the Democratic nod for Greene County commissioner in the upcoming primary.
Lisa Sowden, 47, said she will utilize her experience, skills, and abilities to help build upon the strong roots already established in Greene County as well as use them to grow business and work opportunities.
If elected, Sowden said her focus would be on responsibility to the community. She said she would work closely with local officials to ensure they have the resources to meet their municipalities’ needs, improve communication and fiscal transparency to the public, and implement a county-wide task force on crime that produces results.
Sowden was born and raised in Jefferson, the daughter of a UMWA coal miner mother, who, along with her grandmother, taught her to be a kind person to everyone you meet, work hard for what you earn, and to always do the right thing. Following in her father’s footsteps, Sowden strives to help the Greene County community in building a better, safer, and more productive environment for our families.
She is a graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School and Waynesburg University with a bachelor’s in public service administration focusing on pre-law. She has spent her professional and volunteer career in public service as Greene County housing assistant and housing coordinator; operations coordinator for Community Action Southwest, Greene County; chief deputy in the Greene County sheriff’s office; a patrolman for the Waynesburg Police Department; enforcement officer for the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement; grant writer for the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company; president of the Western PA Fireman’s Association and president of the HHB 1-107th Field Artillery Family Readiness Group.
