A 60-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his car on an icy roadway in Franklin Township Monday morning. Stanley Burkholder of Connellsville was pronounced dead on the scene at about 10 a.m. by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.

A Connellsville man was killed in an early morning crash Monday in Franklin Township when he lost control of his vehicle on icy roads.

The Fayette County coroner was called around 8:30 a.m. to 723 Flatwoods Road, off of Route 201. Stanley Burkholder, 60, was pronounced dead on the scene at about 10 a.m. by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

State police said Burkholder may have been driving too fast for conditions when he slammed into a second car sideways just past a sharp curve in the road. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Uniontown Hospital by ambulance.

About one mile of the road was closed while state police continued to investigate the crash.

Burkholder’s cause of death is pending toxicology tests. An autopsy was not performed, according to the coroner’s office.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Fayette EMS, and fire departments including Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department.
