Centerville man who yielded to turkey flock sues state agencies
A Mon Valley resident who was seriously injured nearly two years ago in a chain-reaction crash on the Mon-Fayette Expressway last week sued two state agencies and another driver in Washington County Court.
Joseph H. Impicini Sr. of Low Hill Road, Centerville Borough, was driving north on May 30, 2017, when he slowed his vehicle due to about a dozen wild turkeys on the road.
A sport utility vehicle behind Impicini also slowed, but a box truck operated by Daniel B. Linden of Youngwood, Westmoreland County, started a chain-reaction crash, the suit alleges.
Impicini, who claims Linden was texting on a cellphone, suffered back and lung injuries and lacerations and had to have his spleen removed.
Tammy Impicini joined her husband as a plaintiff in the court case. They also sued the Commonwealth Department of General Services and Department of Corrections, for whom Linden was driving. The suit called the box truck “overloaded” and “unsafe” and claimed the agencies knew of should have known of Linden’s “extensive poor driving record.”
No court date has been scheduled.
