Charleroi man jailed on assault charges
A Charleroi man was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on multiple charges relating to an assault that happened earlier this month.
Charleroi Regional police filed charges March 11 against Damian James Pearce, 20, of 521 Fallowfield Ave., after he allegedly beat up a woman at his residence March 3.
Police said that around 5:18 p.m., neighbors reported a woman screaming in Pearce’s apartment. The woman was Jessica Pinchok, according to court documents.
She told police that she and Pearce had argued before she threw a cup of water at him, after which he attacked her, the criminal complaint said.
Pinchok told police that Pearce allegedly grabbed her by the hair, put her face to the ground and punched her all over. He then allegedly slammed her head off the ground and kicked her in the back and belly, the complaint said.
Pearce allegedly stopped Pinchok from leaving the residence, and when he brought her back inside, he covered her mouth and nose with his hand so she couldn’t breathe, the complaint said. Pinchok also told police that he has trapped her in his apartment for days at a time.
Pinchok told police she was afraid for her life.
Police said Pinchok had bruises on her arms, bloodied knees and legs, and red marks on her back, belly and face. She also complained of head injuries before she was taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to the complaint.
Police said Pearce had fled the scene before they arrived. They searched the area for him but could not find him. He was recently arrested, however, and faces charges of strangulation, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct.
He was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Joshua Kanalis and put in jail on $35,000 bond.
