A Gates man was found dead Sunday morning after what appears to have been a hunting accident in German Township.

Adah Volunteer Fire Chief and German Township Supervisor LC Otto said the incident appeared to be a hunting mishap. According to Fayette County 911, the man was reported at 10:10 a.m. to have fallen from a tree stand in Gates, a community in the township.

“The tree stand possibly failed,” Otto said. “That’s all we really know.”

Otto said the deceased was a Gates resident and was found over a hillside between Gates Road and Route 166 by a neighbor who was out checking his trail cams on private property near state gamelands.

It is not known when the apparent accident occurred, Otto said.

Fayette EMS, the Adah Volunteer Fire Department, Uniontown state police, the Fayette County coroner’s office and Edenborn Volunteer Fire Department responded.
