Earl B. “Cutty” Carney, 96, of Richeyville, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in his home.

He was born September 10, 1923, in Coal Center, a son of the late Brayton and Emma Fischer Carney.

Mr. Carney was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He served throughout Europe, Italy and Africa and played reveille to morning troops.

He was employed as an underground coal miner retiring from Maple Creek Mine (US Steel) in 1982. He had been previously employed at Vesta 4 Mine for 18 years and J & L Aliquippa Works.

Earl was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local #1211, Hancock-McCune-Horn American Legion Post # 705 and the Richeyville Miners Club.

Mr. Carney enjoyed the outdoors and biking was a favorite of his activities for many years.

He will be sorely missed and was an honest, wonderful human being.

Deceased in addition to his parents is his wife, Nellie Rosetta Carney, who died August 1, 1980; and two sisters, Phyllis Tuttle and Gladys Kalan.

To the world he may be just one person, but to one person he was the world.
