2 min read

Total: $315

Goal: $15,000

The 37th Give-A-Christmas campaign is in full swing, with donations beginning to arrive at the offices of the Herald-Standard.

Benefitting The Salvation Army, the annual campaign supports the organization’s local units, including centers in Uniontown, Markleysburg, Connellsville and Masontown.

“The money contributed to Give-A-Christmas stays in your community,” said Sparkle The Christmas Star, the campaign’s mascot. “By donating, you may be helping your neighbors.”

In addition to the city, the Uniontown unit of The Salvation Army also serves Lemont Furnace, Hopwood, Mount Braddock and some of Hopwood. They use funds from Give-A-Christmas to support programs like Sally’s Café, which serves between 40 and 70 meals daily.

The campaign runs through Thursday, Dec. 22, with the final total announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard. Updates on the campaign’s progress will run each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Recent donors include:

n United Methodist Women of Juniata Methodist Church in Dunbar

n David and Kathy Voelker of Uniontown, in memory of Don and Sally Leaphart

n Charles C. Conko of Uniontown

n Beverly Lohr of McClellandtown, in memory of John Hess Sr., Herb Lohr and Mark Lohr

n Irene Dillow of Uniontown, in memory of her husband Bruce B. Dillow and parents Sam (Toots) and Mary Andaloro

Donations are accepted by mail to the Herald-Standard, 8 E. Church St., Uniontown, and checks can be made out to Give-A-Christmas. Donors may also drop off contributions at the newspaper’s office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
