Masontown police charged a man Friday following reports he repeatedly assaulted his girlfriend.

Franklin David Russell II, 31, of Masontown faces felony charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, and misdemeanors of terroristic threats, stalking, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

According to the criminal complaint, police met the alleged victim at Uniontown Hospital Thursday. Police said she had bruising all over her body and swollen ribs. The woman told responding officers that Russell has assaulted her repeatedly in the past year, including the day she spoke to police.

A witness reported seeing Russell slam the woman on the floor multiple times, according to the complaint.

Russell was arraigned Friday afternoon before District Judge Daniel Shimshock, who sent him to the Fayette County jail without bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 16.
