North Union Township man jailed in alleged domestic incident

By Jon Andreassi newsroom@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A North Union Township man is being held in the Fayette County jail without bond after he allegedly assaulted his mother Friday morning.

John A. Gillen, 46, is charged by state police with a felony of strangulation, as well as misdemeanors of simple assault and terroristic threats.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Gillen’s home in the 400 block of First Street shortly after 10 a.m. Friday. His mother told police that Gillen choked and punched her.

Gillen was arraigned Friday afternoon before District Judge Nathan Henning, who denied bond. Court records indicate this was done for the protection of the alleged victim, and because Gillen is considered a flight risk.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 23.
