Pittsburgh VA holding local events to assist veterans in applying for benefits
Veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their service can apply for benefits at local events scheduled in Fayette and Washington counties.
This Thursday veterans and their survivors can meet with representations from the Veterans Benefits Administration and Veterans Health Administration in Swimmer Hall at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus in Lemont Furnace. The Washington County event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the county’s veterans affairs office, 95 W. Beau St., Washington.
Both run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and each will be followed by a town hall at 3 p.m.
Benefits are available for those exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange or other substances through the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act. Under the act, benefits can be backdated by one year if a claim is granted.
Additional information on the events is available on the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Facebook page.
