Perryopolis to host Fayette County Veterans Parade for the first time
For the first time, Perryopolis will host the Fayette County Veterans Day Parade, set for this Saturday.
“The Perryopolis VFW Gold Star Post 7023 stepped up to host it,” said AJ Boni, the fire chief with the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Boni said parade units will line up in the parking lot of Frazier High School and will begin with a brief service at the war memorial adjacent to the high school at 11 a.m.
“At 11:11 a.m., the parade will start,” Boni said. The start time is a nod to Veterans Day being Nov. 11.
The parade route will continue on Independence Street to the circle in the borough.
Boni said the North Union Township-based Pennsylvania State VFW Band will provide live music at the circle.
From there, the parade will go onto Liberty Street and will end at the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department.
“For the people who participated in the parade, there will be a light lunch provided,” Boni said, adding that refreshments will also be available at the VFW.
He said parking for the parade will be available in the lots at the high school, at the fire department and at Sampey Park. Boni added that FACT buses will be available for shuttle service to and from those locations.
Anyone wishing to participate in the parade must report to the Frazier High School parking lot for 10 a.m.
“We hope people come out that day to support the veterans in the area,” Boni said.
