Message from the publisher: Support local businesses by shopping local
As we gather this holiday season to give thanks, I hope you can enjoy time with the ones you hold dear.
The Herald-Standard is grateful for being part of this great community with all its unique character. Our local businesses contribute directly to this charm and are a driving force in our local economy.
Many of us are hitting the stores this time of year trying to pick the perfect gift. If you’re anything like me, you’re looking for something one of a kind. This is why I visit my favorite local shops for gifts that can’t be found elsewhere.
Why shop locally? Local businesses help our community become more prosperous, entrepreneurial and connected. They are what makes Southwestern Pennsylvania vibrant. Local stores serve as more than just places to shop; they are also gathering places. Places to catch up with neighbors, find out the latest news and share stories with family and friends. Local business owners are also more committed to the community’s overall well-being, as most live in the area.
Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and a leading job creator. The U.S. Small Business Administration reports that most businesses nationwide are considered small. Nearly half of employees work for a small business, and the median wage of someone working for a small business is 3% more than the national average. This shows how integral small business is to our economy and the economic health of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
One of the ways we here at the Herald-Standard are helping support local businesses is by getting behind the BeLocal Network.
The BeLocal Network is the region’s premier shop local promotion and education network. This program is dedicated to strengthening the region’s economy and promoting locally owned independent businesses by educating the market about the importance of shopping locally.
To show your support, you can purchase a BeLocal Network discount card. With the purchase of this card, you will have access to exclusive BeLocal discounts offered by your favorite participating local shops. These discounts change monthly, and you can view them anytime on BeLocal.net.
Through the end of the year, you can purchase a card for $15 and it’s valid through 2024. I encourage you to call 724-225-2075, stop into the Herald-Standard office or visit the BeLocal website (BeLocal.net) and request a discount card.
Your card purchase helps this network grow and educate the market on the importance of spending your money close to home. We encourage everyone to purchase a card and support our robust business community as often as possible while benefiting from these exclusive discounts.
Best wishes to you and yours during this holiday season.
