Ida Mae Schrone Krichbaum, 102, of Georges Township, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023, in her home, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in New Geneva, raised in Cheat Neck, W.Va., and was the last surviving member of her parents’ immediate family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Baladerdine “Frank” and Mary S. Schrone; siblings, Joseph T. Schrone, Nellie Mandolesi-Niciforo, Dorothy Aloise, Sarah O’Neal and Virginia Steve; her husband, Robert P. Krichbaum in 1987; infant son, Richard Krichbaum; and her son-in-law, James Brian.
Surviving are her children: caregiver and loving daughter, Mary Brian; son, Eugene and wife Sharon Krichbaum; daughter, Idette and husband Norm Berkshire; and son, Bill and wife Cathy Krichbaum; her grandchildren, Eric and Peri Krichbaum, Amy and Paul Howe, Heather and Kolby Sexton, Heath and Monica Berkshire, Bill and Brooke Krichbaum, and Laura and Clark Shrum; great- grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, Gabe, Matt, Jacob, Bethany, Hayley, Hunter, Hannah, Gaby, Chloe, Bill, Emma, Laney, Blake and Brantley; brother-in-law, Henry Krichbaum; her sisters-in-law, Veda Angel and Dorothy Janesko; and nieces and nephews.
Ida Mae (Grandma Krichbaum) enjoyed a life of farming, with a passion for her cows and gardening. In fact, upon getting married, she convinced her husband to purchase their homestead, so that she could buy a cow. While she never worked a traditional job outside of her home, she often volunteered as a caretaker for elderly relatives and neighbors. In her final years of life, she reaped what she had sown, as her children took exceptional care of her.
While Grandma will be greatly missed, she leaves a legacy of love, generosity, and hard work for all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, and until the 10 a.m. hour of service Wednesday, September 27, in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, with Pastor James Jobes officiating the service.
Interment will follow in Pleasant View I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithfield.
