Brownsville Rotary Club honored Salanieta Waqanivalu as its November student of the month.

A daughter of Akuila and Venilove Waqanivalu, she is an academic student athlete who originally came from the island of Fiji. In 2009, She moved to the state of California and, five years later, she came to Brownsville.

As an immigrant, she is extremely devoted to God and her family. As a student she is grateful for all the opportunities given to her and she holds education as one of her highest priorities. As an athlete, she hopes to create a positive impact on the people around her.

Waqanivalu is involved in extracurricular activities at Brownsville, including Students in Action, debate, Interact Club, math competition, environmental club, the FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) Club and The Future is Mine.

In addition, she plays on the varsity volleyball, basketball and track and field teams.

Waqanivalu is part of the 4.0 Club, National Honor Society and French Honor Society.

She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in engineering or pre-medicine.
