Lemonilla is one of the many small batch, preservative free skin and self-care products offered at Bombash Botanical Skin Care Co. in McMurray.

Walking into Bombash Botanical Skin Care Co. in McMurray, the first thing most people notice is the fresh scent wafting through the building.

It’s not just the scent or the pure fun of settling into a bathtub of bubbles however. The products at Bombash Botanical are also changing the way customers feel in their skin.

It’s all the result of Tim Bombash’s passion for creating organic skincare products that keep customers coming back time and time again.

“Tim is a very creative person in general and he started making soap one day in his garage,” according to Chrystal Kapanyko, who manages the store. “It took him more than 300 tries to get the exact formula he was looking for; we still have bar number 307 here at the store.”

Once he found perfection, Bombash started going to area farmers markets and things took off quickly from there.

They opened the shop in a small home in 2015 with a yard and garden, giving the entire family that welcoming feeling.

While bath bombs might seem like an indulgence more used by women, Kapanyko said Bombash Botanical Skin Care also has a large following among men.

“The bath bombs are huge with kids and men. So many women come in and they say they aren’t the ones taking the bath, their husband is,” Kapanyko said. “The kids enjoy the bath bombs with toys on the inside or fun shapes. There’s really something for everyone.”

In the back of the store, customers would likely still find Bombash making small batches of bath bombs, body butter, cleansing bars, shampoo bars, moisturizers and more.

“We purchase all raw materials from 22 different countries – straight from the source. We don’t use preservatives and none of the products are made with water,” Kapanyko said. “I think people come to us not just because it smells good, but because it works.”

And, if the store doesn’t have just what a customer is looking for, all they need to do is ask. Chances are, Bombash can create it for you.

“Tim has an amazing ability for smell. We’ve had customers bring in perfume and ask us to duplicate that in body care items, or if (they) really like a specific scent but want it in a different form. We do a lot of custom orders,” Kapanyko said.

They’re getting involved in the community, too.

Prior to the pandemic, Bombash offered a room for parties and other events, and the business just recently opened that room. They’re holding events and DIY workshops on a regular basis.

As a result of closing the room previously, they created the Bombash truck and have the ability to bring the party to their loyal fanbase.

“We decided to take it on the road. We come out for adults and children’s parties. They choose their favorite scent and we teach them how to make their own bath bombs,” Kapanyko said. “It’s always a lot of fun.”

Kapanyko said the small business is constantly growing, and even those outside of Washington County are discovering them.

“We had a woman compliment another woman at Disney World on our Glow product and she called from Florida to order some. It was a scent created by a lucky accident and everyone absolutely loves it,” Kapanyko said. “It’s fun to know that we’re making this and people are noticing. All of us really care about what we’re doing and Tim simply wants to help people.”
