Firefighters from multiple companies responded to a fire in Everson Tuesday that destroyed a house and killed four dogs.

According to Fayette County 911, the call came in at 3:22 p.m. for a fire at 114 Maple St. Dale Grubbs, second assistant chief of the Everson Volunteer Fire Company, said two people lived in the house but were not home at the time. Along with the four dogs that died, two cats were unaccounted for. One unidentified firefighter was transported from the scene with a minor injury.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The state police fire marshal is investigating.

Fire departments that assisted included Scottdale, Bullskin, Dawson, East Huntingdon, Mt. Pleasant, Connellsville Township, South Connellsville and Youngwood, along with Mutual Aid EMS.
