Firefighter injured in Georges Township fire

Crews battled a fire in Georges Township on Tuesday evening that sent one firefighter to the hospital.

According to Fayette County 911, the fire happened at 336 Collier Road in Georges Township around 6:40 p.m.

Fayette 911 confirmed that one firefighter was transported to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital for treatment, and was later released. No additional information on what type of injury the firefighter sustained, nor an update on their condition was available.

Officials at Fayette County 911 said that the Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with housing following the fire.

The state police fire marshal was called to determine the cause of the fire.

Responding to the scene were fire departments from Collier, Fairchance, Smithfield, South Union and Haydentown along with Fayette EMS.
