The Belle Vernon Public Library is changing its hours with the addition of Friday service.

As of Tuesday, hours for the library at 505 Speer St. hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from noon until 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The library had been closed on Fridays for 20 years, but when the Staples store in the area closed, the number of people using the library for printing and faxing increased. Thus, the decision was made to change hours.

“We plan to stick to that schedule for a year and see how it works for all parties,” said Elina Filander, library director. “It was tough coming up with a schedule that pleased people who liked the existing hours as well as having more access, so this will be a work in progress.”
