Firefighters were called to a Locust Road home in Dunbar Township around 3:30 a.m. Friday. A family of three were uninjured in the blaze.

A family escaped a Friday morning fire in Dunbar Township after the sound of a smoke detector woke their son.

The fire on Locust Street broke out around 3:30 a.m., said Kevin Logan, assistant fire chief with DL&V Volunteer Fire Department.

“Smoke alarms probably saved their lives,” he said. “They work. People need to have them in every room. They will save your life.”

Logan said the six-room home partially collapsed from the fire, and officials have not yet determined what caused the blaze, or where it originated.

The closest hydrant to the home was about 1,300 feet away, prompting responders to bring in a tanker truck.

Officials did not identify the occupants of the home.
