State police are investigating after a Fayette City man was shot in the leg during a domestic dispute on Monday morning.
According to police, Nathan Swink and his wife Kristen Swink got into an argument inside a Chevrolet Equinox while the vehicle was traveling on Pittsburgh Road (Route 51) at 8:43 a.m. in Franklin Township.
Police said Kristen Swink, also of Fayette City, retrieved a firearm and the couple struggled over the gun. During that struggle, Nathan Swink was shot twice in the thigh.
Officials at the scene did not disclose what led to the dispute, nor did they say whether the shooting was intentional.
Law enforcement located the SUV in a lot near Allen’s Haunted Hayrides on Route 51. According to first responders, the vehicle pulled over onto an uphill road there. At some point the SUV drifted back down the hill and hit a tree, badly denting the back of the vehicle.
Police said Nathan Swink’s leg injury did not appear to be life threatening. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment.
Kristen Swink was taken to Penn Highlands Mon Valley for observation, but police said she did not appear to be injured.
The shooting is being investigated jointly by state police and the Fayette County district attorney’s office, and no charges have been filed.
