A Lake Lynn man was charged with impeding an investigation into the death of his toddler son.

According to state police, Brett Bissett, 25, initially agreed to surreptitiously record his girlfriend Brianna Bloyer, who is accused of brutally assaulting 2-year-old Bentlee Myers. Instead, he tipped off Bloyer using Snapchat on the two occasions he was supposed to record her, court documents allege.

Last week, Bloyer, 30, of Lake Lynn, was charged with assaulting Myers to the point of causing bruising all over his body, retinal hemorrhaging and a brain bleed. The child was taken to the hospital after an unidentified person came to the couple’s shared home on Aug. 16 and found the boy appeared not to be breathing.

Myers was declared brain dead from the injuries and died three days later. Police contended a search of Bloyer’s cellphone found Google searches for how to make bruises fade and how to make homemade bruise cream.

According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 20, the day after Myers died, Bissett agreed to record conversations with Bloyer. However, police said Bissett warned Bloyer before talking to her on Sept. 9 and Sept. 11.

When police interviewed Bloyer after she was arrested for Myers’ death on Nov. 7, she reportedly told police that Bissett warned her he would be recording the conversations for police. Bissett confessed to doing so when he was interviewed Nov. 8, police said.

Bissett is charged with felony counts of disclosure of intercepted communication and hindering apprehension or prosecution, and misdemeanor charges of tampering with physical evidence and obstruction.

According to court documents, Bissett is considered a potential flight risk and is being held without bond in Fayette County jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20 in front of District Judge Richard Kasunic.
