According to a criminal complaint, a Smock man tried to run from authorities after crashing his SUV into a wooded area in an attempt to avoid police.

State police said Frederick Briscoe, 57, was driving on Route 119 in Dunbar Township around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday when authorities noticed he abruptly switched lanes and did not use a turn signal.

When police tried to pull him over, he drove through several yards on Mary Way before he crashed in a wooded area and ran a short distance, according to the complaint.

Police said Briscoe complied with verbal commands from officers and was taken into custody without incident. He faces several charges including fleeing from police and flight to avoid apprehension, as well as a dozen traffic citations.

He was arraigned by District Judge Richard Kasunic II, and is in Fayette County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
