Fayette County Cultural Trust offers college classes
For $15 a class, the Fayette County Cultural Trust is offering residents the chance to take non-accredited college courses from the University of Pittsburgh.
As part of an ongoing partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, the Fayette County Cultural Trust will be hosting OSHER lifelong learning classes at the Connellsville education center, located at 139 W. Crawford.
“We had a fall session with the OSHER classes that were very popular, so we decided to keep it going this spring,” said Daniel Cocks, executive director of the cultural trust. “We’re going to offer a wide variety of classes starting on Jan. 27.”
The OSHER lifelong learning classes program enables adults, usually over the age of 55, to take college classes at either a heavily discounted rate or free of cost. The program does not require tests or grades but allows those interested an opportunity to learn.
For this upcoming session, 22 classes are being offered from January to March. Each class consists of five sessions and most will take place at the Connesllvie education center or can be attended online.
And while the classes are intended for adults over 50, Cocks said anyone who is interested in learning can sign up.
The classes are taught by professors at the University of Pittsburgh and touch on a variety of subjects such as an introduction to Latin music, History of Photography from 1900 to 1945 and the Rise of Extremism is Europe: 1879 to 1945.
“It’s non-accredited and you don’t get a certificate or anything after the clas; this is geared toward the person that is interested in learning,” Cocks said.
