Uniontown teenager held without bail after allegedly fighting police officers
A teenager was charged as an adult and denied bail after he allegedly tried to fight several police officers during a traffic stop last week.
William Floyd, 17, of Uniontown was a passenger in a car that was stopped at 3:18 a.m. Thursday because police believed it may have been in the area of a shooting that occurred earlier in the night, according to court paperwork.
Police said Floyd was wearing a mask that covered his head and mouth and carried a small bag over his shoulder, which the complaint contended is commonly used to carry firearms or other illegal items.
As Floyd stepped out of the vehicle, police alleged that he tried to flee, but two officers tackled him.
While on the ground, the complaint alleged that Floyd, who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds, fought off four police officers and had to be shocked multiple times with a Taser before being handcuffed.
Several items were found on Floyd or in his belongings, including a bullet in his pocket and a customized handgun with an extended magazine and flashlight and laser attachments, police alleged.
The complaint noted Floyd has felony warrants for burglary, robbery and numerous other firearm-related charges.
Floyd is charged with aggravated assault, flight to avoid apprehension, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, making repairs to a weapon, resisting arrest, evading arrest and giving false identification to law enforcement officers.
He is currently being housed at the Fayette County jail without bail. Online court dockets indicate that is because he is considered to be a threat to society.
His preliminary hearing in front of District Judge Jason Cox is scheduled for next week.
