State police charge Washington man in sexual assault of juvenile

State police charged a Washington man Tuesday in connection with the sexual assault of a 6-year-old on multiple occasions beginning in 2016.
Charging documents accuse Edward Gibbon Snider Jr. of raping the juvenile three times between February 2016 and October 2017.
Snider, 36, was charged by state police in a similar case last November. Records filed in the earlier case described Snider as living in an apartment on Bel Air Drive in Washington County.
The criminal complaint for the more recent case lists Snider’s address as 855 Rolling Meadows Road, Franklin Township, the location of Greene County Prison. Snider had been housed in Greene County until he was booked in the Washington County jail Wednesday.
According to the complaint, state police spoke to the juvenile in May 2019 when the child was 9 years old. The youngster told investigators the assaults took place at a home in Donegal Township. Snider would have been 27 years old when the incidents took place.
In the previous case, Snider is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old at his Bel Air Drive apartment multiple times between 2018 and 2019. It was not clear if it was the same child in both cases.
Snider now faces felony charges of rape of a child, involuntary deciate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault and corruption of minors.
He was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge John Bruner, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $500,000 bond. A preliminary hearing on the new set of charges is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. May 20.
According to court records, Snider is due to appear for plea court at 9 a.m. June 11 at the Washington County Courthouse for charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors.
