Fire at vacant Fallowfield Township nursing home ruled arson

A fire at a vacant nursing home in Fallowfield Township earlier this month has been ruled arson.
The state police fire marshal determined that the May 3 blaze at 1039 Fourth St. Ext. in the township was intentionally set, although no other details about the fire, including where it in the building it started, were released.
Firefighters from seven departments in the Mon Valley were called to the former Nevaeh Cove nursing home shortly before 8 p.m. and found the building ablaze.
Crews at the scene worked for a couple of hours to get the fire under control, but the building sustained heavy damage. No injuries were reported.
It’s not known when the nursing home closed or how long the building has been uninhabited. Photos posted on fire department Facebook pages run by Fallowfield and Bentleyville showed the interior was destroyed, with damage spread across the single-story structure.
The Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Company was assisted at the scene by firefighters from Bentleyville, Charleroi, Lock 4, Stockdale, Carroll Township Fire and North Belle Vernon.
A press release from the investigating trooper said a review of the fire is ongoing, but no other details were released. The release lists the building’s owner, Von Braddock of West Brownsville, as the victim of the fire.
The state police fire marshal at the Washington County barracks could not be reached for comment Friday.
