Commissioners accept Lohr’s resignation

The two remaining Fayette County commissioners voted to accept the resignation of David Lohr during Thursday’ meeting.
“Being county commissioners is a tough job … and I respect anybody who sat at this table and made the tough decisions at the county level. I want to thank Dave Lohr for his years of service, and I want to wish him well in his retirement,” said Commissioner Scott Dunn.
Lohr, 68, resigned from his seat as a commissioner on Friday with more than two years remaining in his four-year term. The Connellsville native said his decision was motivated by his desire to focus on his insurance and security business, and to have more time to enjoy hobbies such as auto restoration.
“It wasn’t anything personal, it was just time to go ahead and make some changes in my life,” Lohr said in an interview on Monday. “I’ve been working my whole life – I haven’t seen an 8-hour day since I left the Navy in 1985, and now it’s time to spend time with my wife.”
Commissioner Vincent Vicites joined Dunn in wishing Lohr a happy retirement.
“I served with Dave for 10 years and he deserves to enjoy life. I wish him the best of luck and good health for him and his family,” Vicities said.
Lohr’s absence means that Dunn and Vicities will have to agree on agenda items until a new commissioner is selected.
Applicants that are interested in taking over the rest of Lohr’s two-and-a-half year term should hand-deliver a cover letter, resume and signed recommendations by Friday at noon to the office of the court administrator located on the third floor of the county courthouse.
According to the county law code applicants must be a U.S. citizen who is qualified to vote, a resident of Fayette County for at least a year, and must have been registered as a Republican since Nov. 7, 2023.
Since Lohr is a Republican, the seat must be filled by someone with the same political affiliation. After reviewing the candidates, President Judge Steve P. Leskinen will name Lohr’s replacement.
