Three killed in Henry Clay Township crash

A three-vehicle crash near Dark Hollow Road in Henry Clay Township killed three people and sent five others to local hospitals Monday night.

Three people were killed and five others were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Fayette County on Monday night.

State police troopers said the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Route 40 near Dark Hollow Road in Henry Clay Township.

A tractor-trailer had been traveling eastbound on Route 40 when it entered the westbound lanes and struck a Ford pickup truck head-on, troopers determined. After that, the pickup truck had a second head-on collision with a Chevrolet express van.

The drivers of the tractor-trailer and the Ford pickup truck, as well as the front seat passenger of the van, were pronounced dead at the scene. Five other occupants of the van, including its driver, were taken to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

The crash remains under investigation. Trooper B Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialists (CARS) and the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) are assisting in the investigation.The coroner’s office was called in to assist the state police in identifying the victims due to the severity of the accident, Fayette County Coroner Bob Baker said in a release. Both are working to notify the next of kin. Until then, the names of the victims are not being released.
