Connellsville man charged in May robbery of Reddy Mart Sunoco
A Connellsville man was charged Monday for allegedly robbing Reddy Mart Sunoco in May after his DNA reportedly matched items dropped near the scene.
William Roger Kern III, 27, of Prospect Street is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Connellsville Police were called to the 225 Memorial Boulevard store at about 6:45 a.m. May 3 when a cashier called 911 saying a man pointed a gun from his pocket and demanded money. The gun was later determined to be an airsoft pistol.
Kern allegedly told the cashier to put all the cash from the register in a bag, saying “Don’t make this hard.”
Two witnesses reportedly chased him from the store and saw him drop a bag of cash near a shrub, along with two black socks, a black hoodie, a black T-shirt and an airsoft pistol. The items were sent to a crime lab, where DNA was found to match Kern, police said. Another witness identified Kern, according to court paperwork.
Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty Jr. Bail has not yet been set in the case.
