Prison officials and emergency officials have scheduled an emergency exercise drill for the State Correctional Institution at Greene in Waynesburg Wednesday.

Superintendent Robert D. Gilmore announced they will be conducting a full-scale emergency exercise involving multiple state and local agencies.

“Superintendent Gilmore would like to inform the community that this is a pre-planned exercise, in which multiple emergency type vehicles will be responding to the facility,” a press release from the prison said. “Please understand the facility is secure and staff are safe.”

Inmates will remain in their cells for the duration of the drill. The exercise is intended to hone emergency plans and allow SCI-Greene staff and responding agencies to train and work together, the release said.
