Fayette City man charged in Perryopolis robbery

By The 2 min read

A Fayette City man has been charged with robbing the CoGo’s in Perryopolis earlier this month.

Nicholas W. Vidonish, 27, allegedly came into the Pittsburgh Road store around 6:50 p.m. July 9, and pulled out a screwdriver, demanding money from the store clerk. When the clerk gave him the money in the register, he then demanded the money in the lottery drawer, police alleged.

Court paperwork indicated Vidonish took $487.46 from the store.

Police said surveillance video caught footage of the alleged robber’s car, a black Mitsubishi Lancer with damage to the rear passenger side. One officer at the scene recognized the vehicle as belonging to Vidonish, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

On July 11, Perryopolis police were told that the vehicle was parked at a New Stanton restaurant. Court paperwork indicated they found the car and towed it, tracing the registration back to Vidonish.

The following day, police interviewed Vidonish, who was incarcerated in the Westmoreland County Prison on unrelated theft charges.

He reportedly waived his right to remain silent, and told police he was “dope sick and needed the money for drugs” when he robbed the store. Police also said Vidonish told them he was in trouble with “bad people,” potentially for stealing construction batteries.

Vidonish was charged this week with robbery, theft and terroristic threats. He has yet to be arraigned in the case.
