A former Fayette County prosecutor was arraigned Tuesday morning on DUI and drug charges.

John William “JW” Eddy, 37, of Uniontown was charged after he was allegedly found with cocaine during a traffic stop on North Gallatin Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. June 4. Test results indicated he was driving with morphine, fentanyl and cocaine in his system, according to court documents.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of DUI. Eddy was arraigned on those charges Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. His bail was set at $5,000 unsecured, meaning he does not have to post money as a condition of release. His scheduled preliminary hearing was continued to 11 a.m. Dec. 4.

Eddy is represented by the office of Davis & Davis.

Eddy served as an assistant district attorney from 2010 to 2017, when he resigned. His license to practice law was temporarily suspended earlier this year by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s disciplinary board pending further action by the court.
