A Laurel Highlands school bus driver was arrested by state police on suspicion of DUI following a breathalyzer test conducted by the bus company after a bus run Friday.
The school bus driver was immediately fired, said Superintendent Dr. Jesse Wallace. Officials are unsure whether he consumed the alcohol before driving the bus with students on it.
First Student is the subcontractor for the school district’s transportation.
“First, we take the health, safety, and welfare of our students as the top priority of the school district,” Wallace said in a written statement.
Police are continuing their investigation and awaiting further test results to determine what charges, if any, will be filed.
“In any event, the individual will not be in the employment of our district moving forward,” Wallace said.
