A man was charged with attempted homicide in a reported shootout with two men Saturday who were forcing him to leave a Hunters Ridge apartment where he had allegedly assaulted a woman.

State police charged Charles Edward Chandler Jr., 56, of Mount Pleasant with two counts each of attempted homicide and aggravated assault and one count each of possession of a firearm prohibited, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

According to the affidavit of probable caused filed in his case, Chandler was drinking at the Redstone Towship apartment with Lynn Feeney when he allegedly hit her between the eyes with a full can of beer at about 2 a.m. Saturday. A friend came over later that day and saw her injuries. She told Feeney she was going to call the police. Feeney said she did not want the police to be contacted, and the friend contacted Feeney’s daughter. Feeney’s daughter, son, ex-husband and her daughter’s boyfriend came over. The men went upstairs and woke Chandler up, police said. They argued and Feeney’s son, Todd Feeney, and ex-husband, Richard Feeney, followed Chandler to his car to make sure he left at about 11:30 a.m.

At his car, Chandler allegedly took a gun from under his driver’s seat and shot at Todd and Richard Feeney. They took cover, and Richard Feeney returned fire. No one was hit, police said.

Police said Feeney had a license to carry a concealed firearm. Chandler is not permitted to possess a firearm due to two felony convictions in December 2014 for disarming law enforcement and escape, according to court records.

Chandler was arrested shortly after the shooting when troopers pulled him over.

He was arraigned Saturday night by on-call Magisterial District Judge Nathan A. Henning, who set bail at $200,000. Chandler was unable to post bail and remains in Fayette County Prison.
