There will be intermittent traffic stoppages for improvements to Route 381 in Ohiopyle beginning this week.
The state Department of Transportation issued a travel alert, noting between Monday and Friday, new bridge beams will be set onto the bridge that carries Route 381 over the Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle.
Motorists will encounter intermittent traffic stoppages during daylight hours, starting at 9 a.m. that will last no longer than 15 minutes at a time.
PennDOT officials reminded motorists to drive with caution and be alert when entering a work zone.
“We want to thank the motorists for their patience while the contractor continues with this project,” said Valerie Petersen, the community relations coordinator for PennDOT District 12.
The bridge work is part of the $12.4 million Ohiopyle Multimodal Gateway Project to improve the Route 381 corridor by minimizing traffic conflict points.
PennDOT officials said crews will install utility hangers and conduits to the bridge components in advance of relocating utilities onto the new bridge.
