Former Monessen Fire Department president charged in theft case

The former president of Monessen Fire Department No. 1 is facing accusations he stole more than $31,000 from the agency and then failed to pay the money back. Monessen police on Wednesday charged Stephen Anthony Gaydos III, 49, of Monessen, with felonies of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and access device fraud. Charging documents state that department officials reported the theft to police Nov. 15. According to the criminal complaint, the department first became aware of the missing funds last May, when fire company officials were consolidating bank accounts. Area Agency on Aging ends Grab and Go food program

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has ended the Grab and Go portion of its congregate meal program. Mary Harris, the agency’s director, said a decrease in funding led to the decision involving a program started during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was started during the pandemic as an alternative way of delivering the congregate meals when we had the social distancing requirements and the centers were closed for a period of time,” Harris said Friday. State police filed additional charges against a Carmichaels man who is accused of defrauding dozens of customers through his asphalt business. Two North Union Township residents, both over the age of 60, have accused Brian Roy Kozy, 41, of accepting money for work that was never finished.
