The Uniontown man who was wanted in the death of an 11-month-old girl in East Huntingdon Township was arrested Monday night in Ohio.
Derrick Anthony "Hector" Bass was arrested without incident by the Western PA Fugitive Task Force and Ohio law enforcement in Cleveland, according to state police in Greensburg.
State police found the baby, Niomi Rose Miller, dead in a Laurel Hill housing complex apartment Saturday night. The infant's mother, Sara Miller, found the baby wrapped in blankets, unresponsive. Bass was babysitting the girl while her mother was at work. He did not pick her up from work as they planned. Miller called 911 when she arrived home, saying Bass and Niomi were missing. She later found the child hidden in a pack 'n play, according to police.
Bass is awaiting extradition from Ohio. He is charged with criminal homicide, theft, receiving stolen property, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
