Assault charges have been filed against two Monessen men after they allegedly attacked a postal worker on his route.
Monessen Police filed charges of aggravated assault and simple assault against Deon Paul Johnson, 18, of McMahon Avenue and Koree Minnie, 20, of Reed Avenue before on-call Magisterial District Judge Anthony Bompiani on Tuesday.
Police were dispatched to Reed Avenue in Monessen at 12:27 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from postal worker Ron Chiaravalle Jr., who said he was assaulted by two men.
Chiaravalle told police he was delivering mail along the 600 block of Reed Avenue when he heard someone yell behind him, “I’m going to [expletive] him up!”
According to police, Chiaravalle said he turned around to see Johnson and Minnie walking in his direction, but thought they were talking about someone else, so he continued delivering mail. Minnie then started arguing with him, ultimately pushing him and throwing a punch at Chiaravelle, police said.
After Chiaravalle tried pushing Minnie away, Chiaravalle fell to the ground and Minnie held him there while Johnson kicked Chiaravalle in the face and head numerous times, according to court paperwork. Minnie also allegedly punched Chiaravalle in the face and head numerous times, police said.
Chiaravalle told police that when the fight was broken up by another man, Minnie kicked Chiaravalle in the head and face.
Police asked Chiaravalle if there were any issues between Chiaravalle and his alleged attackers. Court paperwork indicated that Chiaravalle had dated Minnie’s brother’s ex-girlfriend up until a few weeks ago.
Police said they observed Chiaravalle’s face was red, with swelling around his left eye and the side of his face as well as bleeding from his scalp.
He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Minnie and Johnson.
