Dorotha H. Lyons Knight, 93, of Mebane, N.C. and formerly of Smithfield, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, in UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.
She was born on April 26, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Perry Lyons and Helen Trippett Lyons.
In addition to her parents, Dorotha is also preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Knight, Sr.; and a sister, Virginia Watson.
Dorotha worked for Sterling Faucett Factory in Saberton; W.Va., then enjoyed driving School Bus for Albert Gallatin School District for many years before her retirement. She served on the Smithfield Borough Council, was active with the Smithfield Library and the Fayette County Fair as a chairperson in the Art Department.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles R. “Chuck” Knight, Jr. and wife, Belinda of Mebane, N.C.; two step-daughters, Jerrilyn Knight Cuppett of Smithfield and Carol Berryhill of Conscious, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the FERGUSON – BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 78 Main Street, Smithfield, where family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, followed by a service celebrating Dorotha’s Life at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Ruble officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
