Gene Zorn, of Freedom, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the age of 81.
Beloved husband of Judy Zorn for their 59 years of marriage, and sweetheart since meeting in grade school at St. Xavier Academy.
Devoted father of Christine (Dean) Pregel, Grace Zorn, Kathy (John) Drescher, and the late Michael Zorn. Affectionately known as Pop Z to his loving grandchildren Rachel (TJ), Tom, Ben, Erin, and Cory. Survived by his identical twin brother Robert (Jan) Zorn and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene was born on September 4, 1942, a son of the late Otylia and Eugene Zorn, Sr.
He graduated from St. Vincent College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and also earned a Master’s degree in Criminology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving in offices in Pittsburgh, Ohio, New York City, and Erie. He was a 30-year volunteer for the AARP doing complimentary tax returns and also served as a volunteer for the Big Brothers program.
Gene was an avid reader, relished spending time with family, and cared deeply for people. During his retirement years, he and his wife Judy moved to the Liberty Hills Community where he enjoyed many friendships, as well as activities such as golf and water walking. His strong values, wisdom, sense of humor, and gentle demeanor will be held closely in the hearts of all who knew him.
Gene often said, “Stay on the right track, do your best, and hope for the best.”
Friends and family are welcome to attend a funeral mass on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Saints John & Paul Catholic Church at 2586 Wexford Bayne Rd, Sewickley, PA 15143.
A private family interment will be held in the future at Mount St. Macrina Cemetery in Uniontown. Funeral under the directions of JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, PA.
