Frank Lester “F.L” Bowers III, 81, of Point Marion, passed away quietly Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Frank was the oldest son of Rowena Fullmer and Frank Bowers Jr., and was born June 30, 1942, in Point Marion.

Frank attended Point Marion High School, Valley Forge Military Academy and was a 1961 graduate of Albert Gallatin Senior High.

He worked at the family business, McClain Sand Company from 1959 to 1970 upon its closure. He then worked for Consolidated Coal Company from 1970 until his retirement as a river boat captain in 2004.

Frank was a deacon and lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Point Marion.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Hixenbaugh Bowers; five children and their spouses: Grant and Jaye Lynn Bowers of Lake Lynn, Garrett and Rhonda Bowers of Rowlett, Texas, Mark and Mary Bowers of Canonsburg, Matthew Bowers of Point Marion and Jan and Richard Ponick of Carmichaels; seven grandchildren: Mark, Megan and Matthew Bowers, Alexa and Garrett Ponick and Blake and Parker Bowers; great-grandson, Levi Bowers and his wife, Grace, and great-granddaughter, Luci Bowers and soon to be great-great-grandson.

Frank is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Mark and Gloria Bowers of Point Marion, Beverly Ritchie and late husband, James also of Point Marion, Fran Mangold of Masontown, Brent and Sandy Bowers of LaBelle and Ed Ducoff, husband of sister, Marsha Ducoff, previously deceased, from Dallas, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces and many other beloved family members, including brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Velma Johnson of Lake Lynn.

In addition to his parents and sister, Frank was preceeded in death by a grandson, Grant L. Bowers Jr.

Honoring Frank’s wishes, there will be no public services. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion. Arrangements are in the care of RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion.

A note of special thanks is extended to Amedisys Hospice, and especially Brian and Vicki, for the loving care provided during Frank’s illness. Also, thanks to Pastor Richard Schimansky for the prayers and continued spiritual guidance during this time.
