Catherine Christine Yukish
Uniontown
Catherine Christine Yukish, 67, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, after a prolonged health decline. Born in Uniontown November 18, 1956, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine Gavrich Yukish.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, John.
Cathy’s education included St. Mary Elementary and Laurel Highlands High in Uniontown, a BA in English from Penn State University, and programs from several seminaries.
She was a state spelling champion, a wiz at crossword puzzles, a gifted journalist and musician, and a Croatian curmudgeon, hiding a tender heart with an incredible gift for intercessory prayer.
Cathy was active in Charismatic prayer groups and Cursillo in both dioceses of Greensburg and Pittsburgh. She invested time with the Pittsburgh Sisters of St. Joseph, Philadelphia Trinitarians, and Uniontown Sisters of St. Basil the Great.
She was a district manager in the Circulation Department for the Herald Standard newspaper of Uniontown; worked in Campus Ministry at Point Park College; and served as caregiver at a facility for mentally and physically handicapped persons in Pittsburgh.
She had a passion for music, good food, PSU basketball, and her Lord Jesus. Many of her friends are known only to God, drawn from her various ministries, but also these: Kathie McBride of Ohio, Christine Haines, the Rev. Dr. Deborah Harris, Kim and Tex Show, Deb Murphy, and the gregarious Cannizzaro Clan that kept her from becoming a complete hermit.
There will be no public visitation.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3 in the Church of St. Anne, 1870 Rostraver Road, Rostraver Township, PA 15012. Following the Funeral Mass, all are invited to a reception at the Cannizzaro Farm. All who knew her are invited to join in the celebration of her life; we are confident that she will be with us, only singing with the Heavenly choir, from the other side of the veil.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME, INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934).
