Uniontown

William Jerome “Jerry” Washington, Jr. transitioned peacefully Tuesday, February 6, 2024, in Westmoreland Hospital at the age of 85, surrounded by family.

He was born April 12, 1938, to the late William J. Washington, Sr. and Sarah Chapple Washington of Brownsville.

Jerry was the oldest of four, which included sisters, Marilyn Cook, Vonnie, and Carolyn Washington. He was baptized in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church of Brownsville.

Jerry was a proud veteran of the U.S Air Force.

He was employed by U.S. Steel in Homestead, where he enjoyed a 25-year career before retiring in 1988. He then began a new career as a chauffeur for Francis and Chip Palumbo and Chris Cluss.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Diane “Dee” Harrison Washington of Uniontown; daughters, Mona Harrison Sims (Clyde) of Upper Chichester, Myra Harrison- Crenshaw (Mike) of Uniontown, and Mia Washington-Thomas (Tarrell) of Uniontown; grandchildren, Avery, Christian, Ariene, Aubrey and Ziane; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Adalyn.

Jerry was a member of the I.B.P.O.E of W; and he was a member of Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Sarah Chapple Washington; his grandparents, John and Bessie Chapple; aunts, Reva, Vivian, and Marion; and his sister, Marilyn (Jack) Cook.

Along with his wife, Diane, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Vonnie Washington of Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn Washington of Pittsburgh; brother-in-law, Gary Harrison (Carol) of Uniontown; great-aunt, Catherine Finney of Pittsburgh; and aunt, Dr. Selma Harrison of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service, Saturday, February 17, in the LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 297 E. Main Street, Uniontown.
