Helen Almasi Nypaver

Helen Almasi Nypaver, 99, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully, in her home, Saturday, February 17, 2024. Born June 24, 1924, in West Leisenring (Bute), she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Urchek Almasi.
Helen was the beloved wife for 35 years to Thomas J. Nypaver (deceased), whom she married May 17, 1952, in Saint Mary Nativity Church.
Helen was the loving mother of three sons, Thomas J. Nypaver Jr., (deceased), Terence (Dolores) J. Nypaver, and Timothy (Michele) J. Nypaver; wonderful grandmother to Christina (Tyler) Cebulko, and Neil (Celia) Nypaver; and great-grandmother to Theodore T. Cebulko.
Helen was preceded in death by six siblings and their spouses, John (Agnes) Almasi Jr., Andrew (Gertude) Almasi, Mary (Jacob) Clay, Ann (Joseph) Hudock, Sophia (Frank) Palya, Julie (Edward) Krishan; and brother-in-law, Robert McGarvey.
She is survived by one sister, Theresa McGarvey of Kent, Ohio.
She was a sister-in-law to Eleanor Ungashick, Mildred Goberni, and Josephine Ferry.
She was preceded in death by in-laws, Stephen Nypaver, Bertha Nypaver, Martha Nypaver, Sister Lawrence Dorothy Nypaver, John Nypaver, Francis Nypaver, Mary Jane Murphy, and Elizabeth McBride. She was a dear aunt to many cherished nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Dunbar Township High School Class of 1942.
Helen was an engaging, independent, and active woman, who loved family events, holidays, her Slovak heritage, polkas, dancing, bowling, and her card playing leagues, and was recognized by all who visited for her outstanding baking skills. She remained engaged throughout her long life, contributing actively in family daily life and experiences.
Helen was an active member of Saint Mary Nativity Church of Uniontown, where she participated in the Holy Rosary Society, the Christian Mothers, and the Golden Club; also the Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union, and the Slovak Catholic Sokol. She was guided in all aspects of her life by her deep faith in God.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 23, and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, when prayers of transfer will be said, in the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown.
Interment follows in Saint Mary Nativity Cemetery.
