Banning, Perry Township
William Murphy, Jr., 91, of Banning, Perry Township, died peacefully, in his home, Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was born April 13, 1932, in Houston, a son of the late William Murphy, Sr. and Margaret Jaap Murphy.
He married the love of his life, Lila Sampey, in 1952.
Bill was a retired supervisor at Duquesne Light Company after 36 years.
He was a member of the Banning Community Church, where he sang in the choir; a Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Rowe, where he did a tour around the world from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War; and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gold Star Post 7023 in Perryopolis.
Camping and traveling brought him much joy and the love of many dear and close frinds. He was devoted to his family, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Bill was a man of faith and the heart of his family.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Sampey Murphy; a son, David Murphy; and sisters, Alice Allen and Emily Kohler.
He is survived by a son, Billy Murphy and wife Debbie; and daughters, Darlene Hughes and husband Scott, and Eilene Vidale and husband Paul; grandchildren, Hiedi Murphy, Amy Murphy and husband Dave, Amanda Conde, Mindy Hotz and husband Tom, Billy Murphy, Brent Murphy and wife Kristen, E.J. Lash, and Gina Vidonish; great- grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlee, Paige, Zoie, Adrian, Sierra, Savannah, Sean, Brody, Mason, Alyssa; two great-great- grandchildren, Chloe and Averie.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of the funeral service, Saturday, February 24, in the L. L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME, INC., Second Street, Smithton, with the Rev. James Myers officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.F.W. Gold Star Post 7023, Perryopolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Banning Community Church.
