Wilma Rae Wilson Johnson

formerly of Dilliner

Wilma Rae “Sis” Wilson Johnson, formerly of Dilliner (Taylortown), passed away at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the Sundale Nursing Home, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born July 26, 1921, in Coolsprings, Fayette County, a daughter of the late James Henderson and Beulah Rae Tuttle Wison.

Mrs. Johnson attended school in Fayette and Greene counties. After settling in Greene County, she started working as a case worker and later as the adoption coordinator for Greene County Children and Youth Services until her retirement at the age of 90.

Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of the former Lady Taylor Rebekah Lodge and was past noble grand and past district president of the Rebekah Lodges of Greene County. She served as the State Flag bearer of the Rebekah Assembly of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Fayette Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Point Marion, where she served as worthy matron.

She was a volunteer for the Lobby Shop at the former Green County Memorial Hospital and served as co-captain for the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the John Corbly Memorial Baptist Church, Garards Fort, where she taught Sunday school for several years with the primary, juniors and adult classes, and was president of the John Corbly Mission Society. She was also a 79-year member of the First Baptist Church of Dunkard in Dilliner.

On October 15, 1938, she married Herman F. Johnson, who died December 8, 1993.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are four brothers, Harold, James, Wilbur “Sonny” Wilson and Simeon Wilson in infancy; three sisters, Agnes Nehls, Sara Jane Johnson and Maye Pollock; and two half-brothers, Clark Wilson and Clyde Raymond Wilson.

The family would like to thank the Respi Center of Waynesburg and the Sundale Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to “Sis”.

Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 6 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Wednesday, February 28, in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels. Entombment will be private in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg.

The family suggests donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Dunkard, 106 Plant Road, Dilliner, PA 15327; or the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
