Richard G. Friend

Richard G. Friend passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, due to complications with esophageal cancer at 87 years years of age. He was born October 4, 1936, on the Gundlach farm in Washington County in a log house. He attend Myers one-room school.
Richard is a son of Ralph W. and Pauline Ruth Workman Friend, who are deceased. He was one of their five children, the late Shirley (Albert) J. Gallik, Edward F. (Phyllis) of New Jersey, Carol L. (Lee) Brewer of Scenery Hill, and John W. (Marge) of Carmichaels. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Richard never married so he leaves no descendants of his own.
He grew up on the home farm in Marianna and lived there for many years until the farm was sold. He spent the rest of his life in Brownsville.
His love for automobiles was his pride and joy. In his youth he would cut out pictures of cars and then pretend he was driving them around. When he was old enough to drive he was never without a car or truck to drive. Of course he loved older cars and the truck he was driving had antique plates on it. He also liked putting together puzzles that had many pieces to them. He was involved in genealogy up until the passing of his mother, Pauline.
For many years he had worked as a lawn keeper for private individuals and continued until he was unable to work.
Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, January 18, with funeral services following at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor John Friend officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
