John E. Zayance
formerly of Grindstone
John E. Zayance, 92, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024.
John was a Korean War Veteran who served his country with pride and honor.
He was originally from Grindstone, later moving to Brooklyn, N.Y., then Hamtramck and Royal Oak, Mich.
He worked for Chrysler Corporation’s Mound Road Engine plant, where he was a member of the United Auto Workers, and retired after over 30 years of dedicated service.
John was a lifelong Catholic, who routinely attended church and ushered at St. Mary’s of Royal Oak.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Pittsburgh and Detroit teams, along with Michigan and Michigan State. He also enjoyed his Polish culture and polka music, and spending time in activities and laughter with family, friends, and neighbors.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rita for 58 years; loving and supportive father of John M. (Karen) and Joe (Tracy); adored grandfather of John G., Mallory (Charley), Ryan and Cory; great-grandfather of Sadie Grace and Charley Walter; dear brother of Valeria DeSalvo and Genevieve Guman.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48312, where a 7 p.m. rosary will be held.
Instate visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of the 10 a.m. Funeral Mass Monday, March 11, in St. Paul of Tarsus Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Internment will follow at nearby Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the VFW Acorn Post 1669, where John was a member.
