Franklin Lee “Frank” Varano, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 17, 2024. Born July 3, 1948, in Lake Lynn, he was a son of the late Gaetano “Guy” and Alberta “Bertie” Ruble Varano.
Frank was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved classic cars and Western movies.
He was previously employed by WVU Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., where he also volunteered to dress as Santa to visit the sick children on the Children’s ward at Christmas time.
Frank volunteered as a police officer to help keep the residents of Point Marion safe during the strike in the 1980s.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Mary Catherine Wolverton Varano; his six children and their spouses, Monica and John Wyland of Warner Robins, Ga., Jonathan and Erin of McClellandtown, Henry and fiancee Judy Cleaver (who was also Frank’s caretaker) of Point Marion, Helen and Michael Duranko of Greensboro, Neoka and David Settie of Uniontown, and Yancy Varano of Uniontown; also 16 grandchildren, Derick, Brandon, Shawn, James, Zachary, Kortnei, Shannon, Damien, Lytisha, Watowna, Brook, Heidi, Hannah, Meghan, David (DJ), Lilliana; 15 great- grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Patsy Varano; four sisters, Theresa Bankhead, Rose Mary Willard, Angela Baker, Vicky Leonard; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved pug, Gabby, who was his constant companion and never left his side.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Russell Varano; sister, Joan Ruble Smitley; and a very special nephew, Richie Ruble.
His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of funeral services, Friday, March 22, with Steve Baker officiating, in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion.
