Harold E. “Junie” Gerwig, Jr., 84, of Uniontown, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024. He was born November 18, 1939, in Uniontown, a son of the late Harold Eugene Gerwig, Sr. and Eleanor F. Hess Gerwig.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracie Labree; step-daughter, Nancy Hawthorne; and sister, Donna J. Butler.
Harold was a 1957 graduate of Uniontown High School. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Harold served in the United States Army. He was a telecommunications expert that served his country as an employee of the Department of State Foreign Service for over 30 years. His employment took him to many countries, including Paris, Turkey, Germany, Honduras and many others.
Harold was a member of the Germany Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife.
Left to cherish Harold’s memory are his loving wife of 24 years, Gertrude Dobyns Gerwig; his son, Erik Gerwig and his wife, Lisa of San Diego, Calif.; his daughter, Kim Cassandra and husband Jon of Ocean City, Md.; stepson, Donld A. Hawthorne and wife Rene of Crescent City, Fla.; sister, Irene Gerwig of Uniontown; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2. Visitation will continue in the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m., the time of a funeral service celebrating Harold’s life, Wednesday, April 3, with Pastor Gary Workman officiating. Interment will be private.
Military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post #103 of Hopwood.
